Version 1.9.5 Beta (Major Updates)
v1.9.5 Beta
The Dirt
After a long week of digging deep into code and game files, I have some GREAT news! The framerate problem has been fixed! (mostly) I think if I dig deeper I can get a few more frames. But for now, the game runs smooth as silk at 60 fps on my rig. Best framerate I have ever got since the start of development. I'm pretty excited to be making progress on this.
The framerate issue was priority, and since that got fixed in a reasonable amount of time, I decided to go ahead and add some new content. Also I did some major overhauls to some game systems that were causing some problems. I'm calling this a MAJOR update as a bunch of stuff got re-worked and the game looks and runs better than ever! See below for all the Overhauls, fixes, and additions.
Overhauls
- Fixed framerate (I'm getting 60fps on my development rig)
- New enemy spawn system (Spawns were on a timer before, now enemies spawn instantly when entering an area)
- New music/enemy alert system (This fixes the alert music overlapping with the main music tracks)
- Doorway overhaul (This fixes the player from losing movement control when entering some doors/trucks/elevators)
- Lighting Overhaul (Most lights are now dynamic, and cast crisp shadows)
Fixes
- Fixed enemy spawning orientation (They'll now spawn facing the correct direction for their navigation path)
- Fixed dogs continuously barking after alerting them(They'll now just bark once after being alerted)
- Fixed an area in the 4 Guardians room where you could see the void through the game world
- Fixed lighting intensity after a respawn outside the final building
- Fixed boss battle music not stopping when fleeing the Machinegun Kid
- Fixed brightness of garage doors texture in tank hanger(Building 1)
- Fixed lighting intensity after a respawn outside building 1
- Fixed some weird lighting grid line shadows on floors in a few interior areas
- Fixed a spelling error in opening video
Additions
- Added post process effect volumes to large interior areas
- Added 5 new cactus models to desert area (scattered randomly)
- Added new blowing sand wind effects to desert area
- Added a few new props to desert area
- Added more fog/mist/smoke/steam to interiors
- Added animation effects to opening video disclaimer information
- Added more lighting effects to large interiors
- Added high resolution tires to all jeeps
- Added high resolution tires to all trucks
- Added engine idle sound effects and visual exhaust effects to all trucks that transport the player
- Added new ambient sound effects to a few interior areas
- Added more dynamic lights
- Added more plant life and rocks on road paths
- New light build (Best yet!!!)
- Smaller download (down from: 2.57Gb to 2.44Gb)
- Now available as a direct download from the itch.io server
The Next Plan
There's some random stuff that needs to be done. I want to get the laser sight working with the cardboard box. (See how that goes) A few more lighting fixes and shadow anomalies I want to take care of. There's a few more glitches I found during my last play through too. Getting on that. Also I have a few more additions in mind for the next release. Possible jungle wildlife to liven up the outside areas maybe. A few place holder models are bugging me as well. Hopefully get them swapped out. That's about it for now. Enjoy 1.9.5 Its the best yet! :)
